FAQ’s

We only use high-quality herbal extracts

Our herbal formulations are created using premium practitioner-quality liquid extracts sourced from trusted New Zealand and Australian herbal medicine manufacturers.

These manufacturers have established reputations for rigorous quality systems, careful ingredient sourcing, and scientifically informed extraction methods. Their manufacturing processes include comprehensive quality assurance measures designed to verify the identity, purity, and consistency of the botanical ingredients used in their liquid extracts.

Herbal raw materials are carefully selected, authenticated, and processed using extraction methods appropriate for each individual herb. This helps preserve the naturally occurring plant constituents while maintaining consistency from batch to batch.

Once selected, these practitioner-quality extracts are professionally blended into our unique formulations by a qualified naturopath, nutritionist, and medical herbalist. Each formulation is designed to combine traditional herbal knowledge with evidence-informed practice, providing convenient, high-quality herbal liquid extracts for everyday wellbeing.

Because herbs are natural products, slight variations in colour, aroma, flavour, and the presence of natural sediment may occur between batches. These variations are normal and reflect the seasonal nature of botanical ingredients rather than differences in quality.

I don't like the taste. What can I do?

Many medicinal herbs are naturally bitter, a characteristic that reflects the plant's naturally occurring constituents. If you find the flavour strong, try one of these options:

  • Dilute your dose in a small glass of water.

  • Mix it with a small amount of juice, or add a little honey with warm water or add a dash of barkers blackcurrant syrup if appropriate.

  • Add the extract to warm (not boiling) water and allow it to cool before drinking to soften the alcohol flavour.

  • Follow with a glass of water if desired.

  • Make fruit gummies with mixed berries and gelatine then add the dose to each serving of the gummy. See my blog post under the Journal tab for a recipe.

Avoid adding your herbal extract to boiling water, as excessive heat may affect some of the delicate plant constituents.

Why are some herbs so bitter?

Bitterness is a natural characteristic of many medicinal plants. Rather than indicating poor quality, it often reflects the presence of naturally occurring bitter compounds that have traditionally been valued in herbal practice.

The taste, colour and aroma of herbs naturally vary between species and batches.

What are glycerine (glycetract) extracts?

Some herbal extracts are prepared using vegetable glycerine instead of, or in combination with, ethanol.

Glycerine produces a naturally sweet-tasting extract that is alcohol free, making it a suitable option for people who prefer to avoid alcohol or for herbs that extract well in glycerine.

Because different herbal constituents dissolve best in different extraction media, not every herb is suitable for a glycerine extract. The extraction method is selected to achieve the best balance of quality, stability and preservation for each formulation.

Are glycerine extracts as effective as alcohol extracts?

Both extraction methods have their place in herbal medicine.

For many herbs, ethanol extracts provide the broadest spectrum of extracted constituents and are considered the preferred extraction method. For other herbs, glycerine is an excellent alternative and offers a pleasant taste and alcohol-free option.

Your formulation has been selected using the extraction method most appropriate for the herbs it contains.

Why do some products contain both glycerine and alcohol

Some formulations combine extraction methods to optimise both the range of plant constituents extracted and the flavour profile. This allows the finished product to maintain quality while improving palatability.
